Our Story
Behind every great brand is a story worth telling. Ours begins with a remarkable woman named Ellen Liddy Watson — known to her friends as Ella — a homesteader, rancher, and pioneer who refused to be pushed off her land on the Wyoming frontier in 1889.
Standing 6'2" tall, possessed of a warm Celtic spirit and an iron will, Ella carved out a life for herself on the Sweetwater River against all odds. She bought cattle, built a homestead, and fell in love — only to be tragically lynched by a powerful cattle baron who wanted her land. The newspapers of the day smeared her name, calling her "Cattle Kate" in an attempt to discredit her. But the truth was far more beautiful: she was a strong, independent woman who simply wanted to build something of her own in the American West.
We named our brand in her honor — to reclaim that name and celebrate the spirit of women like Ella who shaped the West with their own two hands.
